Newsletter 4 - End of the project and final webinar
This is the last newsletter of the Life&Health project, which started in September 2018. Life&Health is a two-year collaborative project of three countries in adult education, funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ program.
The project focuses on health promotion and lifestyle training for adults. The aim is to raise awareness of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their lifestyle-related risk factors, increase health literacy, and encourage individuals to take up a healthy lifestyle.
The final conference of the project was planned for June 2020 but it could not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, short presentations have been made of the main project outputs, which will be shared on electronic media. Below are short summaries of the content of the presentations and links to videos of them.
The project has been well-received and it is the hope of the partners that with the introduction of a new curriculum, open and accessible training material and instructor training, new opportunities will be created for those who want to improve health and well-being through a changed lifestyle.
The project's partners in Iceland are SÍBS and Austurbrú, LHL in Norway, and CESIE in Italy.

Gap Analysis, a Summary of Results
The Gap analysis was performed from Sept 2018 to May 2019. After preparation of a methodology for selection of health promoting communities were one to four communities in each country selected. The project group completed desk research on skills’ and competences’ shortages and existing life style training. To measure physiological, psychological, social and other factors in order to discover their impact on health, the health and lifestyle survey instrument HAL-100TM was selected
To explore skills and training needs in the participating communities, Gap analysis surveys were performed. The focus were on challenges, associated with skills and competences shortages found by the selected communities and/or their regions and literature. The topics were lifestyle training, diet, and best practice.
The Gap-analysis revealed common keywords for lifestyle coaching as motivation, health literacy, lifestyle and health promotion, sleep, activity, E-health and health knowledge. Suitable facilities and motivated and trained lifestyle coaches were identified as important factors together with access to evidence based health knowledge. The chosen communities in the project were rather heterogeneous with group from work places, immigrant populations and group of equals. Further was the lifestyle training program developed partly as a result from the GAP-analysis.
The Gap-analysis will serve as a platform for the further work in the project with training of the lifestyle coaches, implementation of the Life&Health health days, group meetings and performing the HAL-100 survey in the different communities.

The results are interpreted and presented graphically in an intuitive way. The presentation relates how HAL-SI can be used to assess the situation prior to and after lifestyle intervention to measure progress as well as serving as a motivator to highlight the many aspects of health.

In fact, all the resources developed by the project over the years have been uploaded to the website which is simple and intuitive to navigate. Indeed, one of the principles that has been used in the construction of the website has been to be "user friendly".
In addition, the presentation shows how to enter the Learning Platform which allows for a profoundly educational experience, thus learning notions, techniques, activities and studies related to well-being and health and how these have a profound impact on our lives and health.

We discuss briefly what layout will work best in our opinion. We also discuss what was covered in the courses and where the emphases lie. Special attention is paid to the experience of the follow-up, which we consider to be important but also a great challenge.

She has long experience training through the national association for heart and lung disease (LHL) in Norway. Now she has been through the program EU erasmus project and implemented the offer with a group of participants over many months.
For a period this spring, all activity had to be stopped due to Covid. The whole of Norway was shut down for several weeks. But then Mona started training outside with various activities. This became very popular and welcome. Activities such as tire pulling, walks in the woods and fields, swimming, strength training and finishing with pleasant social activity, - coffee and conversations about exercise, lifestyle change. In Norway, completed health checks before and after lifestyle training have shown improved values. This is fun and motivating for the participants and is recommended to do. We have had 5 different groups around Norway.

The piloting took place in a reception centre for migrants, who were considered and identified as a fragile community for different reasons such as: health knowledge, literacy, economic resources, etc..
Piloting was highly formative and valuable for those who took part in it. Thus, increasing their skills and knowledge in the field of health and well-being, especially with regard to chronic diseases.
Having worked with such a sensitive target in this historical moment in Italy and in Europe, gives a major force to the project and its impact on the territory and communities.
